Small Office/Home Office
(SoHo) Networking
Home Networking
By applying a PLC extension to the DSL or cable modem that is providing broadband
Internet connection to a home, the file-sharing and connections to a printer in
that home could be networked between personal computers ("PCs"), laptop computers,
PDAs, and other computing devices located in the home. In this scenario, Gridline
Communications Corp.'s integrated network products will have converted every
electrical outlet in the house into a sub-network node for an integrated network
connection and application. Our BPL access technology will provide a medium for
home automation application, making life easier for customers, while saving
money with power and utility bills. For example, a customer can shut
down his/her air conditioning unit remotely, using a browser. Such browser IP-based
interfaces could also apply to water sprinkler systems in homes and businesses,
whereby a customer who is out of town looks up the weather forecast for his local
area for rainfall, and can remotely turn on or off lawn sprinkler units, thereby
positively impacting the water utility bill. These customer focused innovations
are affordable and inexpensive with BPL access technology in homes and businesses.
Small Office/Home Office (SoHo)
The same integrated shared network connections and applications that achieved
in-home networking discussed above can be duplicated in a SOHO environment,
using existing wall power outlets in the office. Cost-saving applications
such as Voice over the Internet (VoIP) and Broadband Conferencing can provide
enormous flexibility in provisioning of the equipment location by merely
connecting through the existing power outlets. This type of provisioning
will also allow for a simple plug and play operating environment for the end
user without the logistical issues associated with moves and changes.
